Bread and cereals, fruits, vegetables, poultry products, and milk products are the five main basic food groups, which a good diet should contain. All these products are needed for the proper functioning of the different parts of the body. A well balanced diet should contain an equal proportion of the above five group of items. People suffering from arthritis should have a well balanced diet. That is to say that they should not over eat but at the same time ensure that under eat certain products, which are very vital for the body. A body in order to be developed properly should have all the vitamins and minerals in the required quantity. Especially people suffering from arthritis should see that they eat foodstuff, which provide them with a lot of vitamins and minerals. If they do not consume food with proper vitamins and minerals their pain could increase further.
Arthritis can make it very difficult for people to consume a wide variety of foods. People suffering from arthritis often complaint of tiredness and exhaustion. This can limit a person from making various foodstuffs and also a person might lose his appetite due to the feeling of tiredness and exhaustion. Sometimes people get so tired that instead of making food at home they resort to fast food joints, which are very unhealthy. And hence fail to have a well balanced diet. Also proper medication should be taken to avoid further pain. Care should be taken to consume the proper medication because sometimes wrong and improper medication might also affect what one eats.
The foodstuff that should be avoided by the sufferers is products with excessive amount of sugar, caffeine, salt, and red meat, most of the dairy products, soft drinks, corn and flour. People especially between the age group of 40-60 should try to avoid foodstuff with the above content so that they are not faced with difficulty when they are aging.
Many scientists believe that an increase in consumption of sugar can be directly linked to the increase in arthritis. Other scientists also think that an increase in consumption of soda can increase the risk of arthritis. But these two beliefs are still under debate, and many physicians agree that limiting the consumption of soda and sugar helps to reduce symptoms in many patients.
As said earlier that people suffering from arthritis get tired very fast and hence do not cook properly which results in an improper diet. Therefore instead of preparing food everyday the sufferer should prepare additional quantity of food the day he/she is not feeling tired. And the additional food could be kept in the refrigerator so that when required it can be removed and eaten. Also now days cut and cleaned vegetables and fruits are available in the market, which makes the cooking job easier.
Scientifically there has been no food that has been linked to the symptoms of arthritis. But many people suffering from this chronic disease say that an increase in tea, coffee and caffeine can add to the symptoms as there is an excessive amount of sodium in the diet.
Therefore researches just want to convey that people suffering from arthritis should have a well balanced diet and should ensure that they are taking proper medication.
